As I spoke with a dear friend recently she mentioned that she sees many people that are living a habitual lifestyle of doing all the right things as a Christian. They wear the right clothing, they have the Christian lingo down, they act according to what others expect of them, and they attend church every Sunday. What she was saying was confirmation to me as I had been searching my own life with this very question.
Is my worship of God a Lifestyle or just a Stylish Life?
What about you, is your worship a Lifestyle or has it become a Stylish Life.
Does your life portrait a life that fully loves God? Do you talk with God throughout the day? Does every decision you make go through the filter of God’s acceptance?
Wow, this is pretty self reflective, but important to see how we view our lives.
While reading Ezekiel 32: 31 I was convicted to not only hear the Word of God, but to live it out through everything I do.
They come to you as people come, and sit before you as My people and hear your words, but they do not do them, for they do the lustful desires expressed by their mouth and their heart goes after their gain.
Ezekiel 32:31
What does it mean if we hear the Word of God but never allow it to move from our ears to our heart to our feet? The Israelites would listen to the very words of God through Ezekiel, but they would not act on them and just go about their own way.
Isn’t that us at times? A Lifestyle should be one that is the same in the sacred and the secular realm. You are the same person no matter where you are: in church or at home, part of the youth group or on the athletic field; attending Bible study or sitting on the sideline, enjoying your quiet time or checking out at the local grocery store……Phew!
In the book of Haggai, the prophet, Haggai comes to Zerubbabel, who lead the first group of captives from the Babylonian Exile with a challenge. He challenged the leadership that the people were living in luxury while the house of the Lord laid desolate. He encouraged Zerubbabel to consider their ways (Haggai 1:1-11). God made this personal while studying this portion of scripture: do you just take care of your outward appearance only with no regard to what God has entrusted to you and do you treasure the gift of the Holy Spirit that Jesus Christ left you when He ascended back to His Father? Yes, you and I house this gift in earthen vessel. Consider your ways. Make Him first and everything else of value will find you. Even your calling. When you release your dreams and desires to the One who planted them in your heart, He will be able to work with a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work (2 Timothy 2:1).
Am I always going to get this right?
Absolutely NOT!
But it is worth the try to always remember that the God of hope fills you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope, by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)
When we are filled up with God’s Word daily, it will penetrate our hearts and with His power overflow into every area of our lives and become a Lifestyle of worship, commitment and devotion.
Journeying with Him,
Jessie
