I frequently have the question asked, Does God still speak? The answer is Y.E.S. God does still speak. It may or may not be an audible voice, but if He chooses to audibly speak to His followers, He will. However, the most assured way you can hear God speak is by daily reading His Word. I once heard it said if you want to hear God’s voice – read His Word out loud. Both David and Moses tell their successors, Solomon and Joshua, to seek God and He will let you find Him.
As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever. 1 Chronicles 28:9
Yes, you can have the greatest hide-and-seek game of all time.
Do you remember playing hide-and-seek as a child? Someone would hide and then you would need to search the area for the person hiding. As you’re wondering around, you would call out, “Am I getting close?” The person hiding would hint at if you were getting warmer or colder. With that, the warmer you were, the closer you would be to finding the hider.
It’s the same with God. The closer you are to Him, the warmer you will be and the brighter your light will shine.
Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lamp-stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
Our lights will shine brighter the closer we draw to God. And the closer you draw to God, the more you will know and understand His ways and hear His still small voice.
Just ask for more of Him and that He would open your minds to understand the scriptures (Luke 24:47).
God loves when we seek after Him.
For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. 2 Chronicles 16:9a
So, as He captures your heart and you wholeheartedly seek Him, He will let you find Him. As you commit to read His Word, your time with Him will go from a demand to a desire. And, I promise you will hear His voice through your quiet time in His Word.
Journeying with Him,
Jessie
