I love the phrase, from now on, in scripture. Peter was a fisherman, but from now on he will be a fisher of men (Luke 5:10). The adulterous woman was forgiven of her sins, and Jesus said to her, “go, from now on sin no more” (John 8:11). Paul changed gears from teaching the Jews to, from now on, taking the message to the Gentiles (Acts 18:6).
From now on always means change. Change in actions, vocation, or even location. It’s a fresh beginning, a different calling, a new direction.
I have very exciting news from our family.
From now on. . . I will be called “Mimi” (well, at least, that’s the title my grand-dogs started.)
My daughter, Sarah, and her husband, Jon, are expecting their first baby in March 2019. This precious little one makes me a grandmother.
I have been told time and time again— just wait until you are a grandmother. . . It is one of the greatest things you will ever experience. Well, from now on, I get to embark on this blessing so many of my friends are already walking.
Our family is overjoyed with this announcement, and I am beyond excited for my new role. However, my mind is flooded with so many emotions and thoughts. It seems like just yesterday Sarah was a newborn. How can I be a grandmother? Where does time go? What truth, love, and legacy do I want to deposit into this grandbaby?
The emotions are a wide spectrum of delight to the weight of responsibility. Although, it is a role I am ready to embrace.
Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth.
How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.
Psalm 127:3-5
Children are such a blessing from the Lord and it is my desire to make a mark on those that come behind me, a spiritual watermark that never fades away, a legacy that is remembered.
I once heard, “Leave them something that money can’t buy:” Teach them to suffer well, show them how to work unto the Lord, manage their finances, make wise decisions, and live grace filled lives. Now that is an inheritance.
Grandparents are not just called to leave something to their children and grandchildren but to leave something in them. Our children are only entrusted to us for a short period of time. The legacy you and I leave, is the one we walk out everyday by the way we live out our days.
Strength and dignity are her clothing,
And she smiles at the future.
Proverbs 31:25
I am excited for the future and all that God has for our family to experience and learn through this new adventure and bundle of joy that will invade our lives and hearts forever.
