Willingness and receiving are key components to the power of a miracle.
Many of you have read the story of Jesus walking on the water to His disciples while crossing over to Capernaum after the feeding of the five thousand in John 6:16-21. It’s not a story of Jesus sleeping in the boat, nor about Jesus calling us to step out of the boat; it’s not Jesus calling us to leave our boat, but it is about Jesus getting into our boat. How willing are you to receive HIM in?
The story starts out with the disciples getting into their boat as the evening approached. They had just experienced the miraculous feeding of the five thousand. Afterward, Jesus went away to be alone with His Father in the mountains as the disciples were heading to Capernaum. While crossing the sea, a strong wind stirred the waters and after rowing about 3-4 miles, they saw Jesus walking on the water. As Jesus drew near the boat, the disciples were frightened. But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” (John 6:20)
This is where the miracle in this story took place…
So they were willing to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going. John 6:21
It’s the story of Jesus coming at a rough time in a miraculous way and coming up along side them, joining them, and getting them through the rough time.
It’s about the willingness of the disciples to receive Him in.
…And once they willingly received Him into the boat, the boat immediately landed in Capernaum. Immediately, indicates another miracle performed by Jesus.
This is the story of Christ getting in our boat and giving us peace even in the midst of the storm. – Teaching us that when we have Christ with us, we have everything. Here’s the thing about the disciples at this time: They didn’t have Christ with them yet unless He was physically present with them. It wasn’t until Jesus ascended to the father that He said He would send the Holy Spirit to live in us.
So that, NOW, no matter the circumstances trials or storms, we who are His disciples now have Christ with us always and He will bring us through. When we are His and He is ours we have have the strength to walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16) and the power to walk it out (Colossians 1:29).
Won’t you watch for a miracle in your life today as you willingly receive Christ to walk with you no matter what you are facing and allow Him in your boat?
You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.
Psalm 77:14
