With Each Step…
Does anyone else need to hear this? God is for you!
Sometimes when life hits and it can hit us hard, you and I need this reminder – Psalm 56:9b, This I know, God is for me. Yes, there are times we wonder if God is listening to our prayers, our desires and our dreams. Because, sometime our prayers are not answered the way we hoped or our dreams don’t happen in our time. So, what do we do with the disappointment, the delay or the defeat? Embrace it.
Yes, you heard me, embrace it.
It may not be what you planned, but it is exactly what God planned, and once you can see it from His perspective, the greater your attitude will be.
What I have come to appreciate about embracing the disappointment or the surprises that life can bring, is to try to walk out each day set before me. Not to worry about tomorrow, as tomorrow will take care of itself. (Matthew 6:34)
Easier said than done, right?
Sometimes, it’s hard to take the next step when…
You are battling a disease.
You have a sick child.
There seems to be no hope in your marriage.
Your job is just blah.
And, life, well, it’s just plain hard.
All God is asking of you and me, is to walk out the day before you. And know, He is cheering you on. He is your biggest fan. God is for you!
In My Utmost for His Highest, Oswald Chambers defines walk this way, “The word walk is used in the Bible to express the character of a person…There is nothing abstract or obscure in the Bible; everything is vivid and real. God does not say, ‘be spiritual,’ but He says, ‘Walk before me faithfully and be blameless’ (Genesis 17:1).”
He wants us to walk in the Spirit and then you will not carry out the desires of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16)
Walk it out with each step: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. (Galatians 5:22) This fruit is the character and heart of Jesus. Character we want to emulate.
When these qualities are at the forefront of our minds:
- Our attitudes will look different
- Our relationships will be better
- Our desires will be more Christ-centered
- Our Spirit will be willing
If you do not see the fruit of His Spirit manifested in your life and walked out through your situations, check the root system to see if it is going deep enough to draw from His strength and not your own.
For you have the source set before you to walk in a manner worthy of your calling. That source is the power of the Spirit. Be a partaker of His divine nature ( 2 Peter 1:4) and strive according to His power, which mightily works within you (Colossians 1:29).
It is there for the taking; we just have to walk it out with each step we take.
Do it in His strength and you will walk a little straighter, calmer and wiser.
Journeying with Him,
Jessie
