“…Your Heavenly Father knows…” (Matthew 6:32)
Recently, these four little words have given me comfort to wake up and move forward through some hard days. Some of you may know that my mother passed from this world to her eternal home a few weeks ago. We were all taken by surprise when we heard the news from the doctor. She had suffered from multiple heart attacks over the last seven years. . .but, she always came home. This is what I kept repeating to myself, “she always comes home.” However, this time her location changed—home was defined differently; home was her eternal destination.
But what remained was her love for each of us and her whimsical spirit of enjoying each day.
As the days have passed and the reality of it all continues to set in, this verse has engulfed my thoughts and directed my prayers. . . “your heavenly Father knows…”
Your heavenly Father knows what?
He knows the aches of your heart.
He knows your thoughts when you can’t speak.
He knows your future.
He knows the desires of your heart.
He knows the hurts you feel.
He knows the longings you have.
He is an intimate God—He’s YOUR Heavenly Father who knows all things and who holds all your tears in His bottle.
You keep track of all my sorrows.
You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book.
(Psalm 56:8)
You may not be dealing with the loss of a family member, but you are dealing with something that has rocked your world. As your good Father, He knows exactly what is going on in your life and He knows exactly what you need—your Heavenly Father knows and is fully aware of your life today. There is nothing that you’re facing that He is not conscious of and committed to helping you with.
He’s omniscient (He knows all things).
You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thoughts from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways (Ps. 139:2-3).
He’s omnipresent (He’s ever present).
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me (Ps. 139:7-10).
As we believe these truths, they will give us what we need for each day—the security of His presence.
Even if the view in front of you seems dim and unclear, He knows. He cares. He loves.
He is there when I want to pick up the phone or send a text message to share the day’s activity with my mom. He knows the loneliness felt in the night hour. He cares when I listen to her last voicemail. He loves me because I am His and He’s mine.
Together, let’s trust that our Heavenly Father knows the days of our lives with every detail planned so that we can walk into the future with His guidance and love for us.
