Let’s face it, for most of us, summer brings looser schedules, vacations, spontaneity and later nights. As we begin to gear up for the fall calendar, some priorities may change as our schedules tighten and days shorten.
I recently thought, “Do I need to reprioritize any areas of my life?” How about you, do you need or want to reprioritize any areas of your life? Reading, Haggai 1:4-5 reminded me to seek Him first in all things.
“Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses while this house lies desolate?” Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts, “Consider your ways!
Haggai called the people to reprioritize their lives. They focused on themselves while building their own homes and businesses, and yet God’s House remained unfinished. He told the people that rebuilding God’s house and their relationship with Him was their number one priority.
Yes, it is easy to get our priorities mixed up. Our lives get busy with many commitments to family, friends, work, personal goals and ministry. Even the good things we do such as volunteering in the community and commitments to church activities can overwhelm and distract us from our number one priority of seeking Him.
Let us put HIM first before our “stuff” and our own desires. Ask Jesus how He wants you to spend your day, your time and your ways.
Haggai 1:7-8, “‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, Consider your ways! Go up to the mountains, bring wood and rebuild the temple, that I may be pleased with it and be glorified, says the Lord.”
Consider your ways! What does this look like in your life? It will be different for each one of us.
As you consider your ways, hear what Oswald Chamber said: “Never become attached to anything that continues to hurt God.”
Retreat to your “mountain” and seek God with all your heart. Ask Him to search you and reveal anything in you that He may not be pleased with. Is there anything He may want you to reprioritize to make Him first?
Anything He may want you to reprioritize to keep Him first?
Yes, you and I will need to be intentional, but it will all be worth the one-on-one time with our Savior. Once He reveals His ways to you, move out with confidence, dignity and grace.
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
