Do not fear is one of the strongest and most used commandments in the Word of God but it’s possibly the hardest to keep. Why do we fall into the fear trap? Because, at times, we live in the “what if.” What if this happens; what if that happens? When you become lost in the what if, you miss the presence of the moment. Many times, the what if never even happens or you start to trust a lie that was never meant to occupy your thoughts. This can lead you down a path of missing the importance and blessing of the moment in front of you.
There is power in the moment. God only gives us enough light for the next step. He is your God. He is your strength. He will carry you. “There is none like the God of Jeshurun, Who rides the heavens to your help, And through the skies in His majesty. The eternal God is a dwelling place, And underneath are the everlasting arms . . .” (Deuteronomy 33:26-27).
The promise of God’s strength comes from an undergirding power beyond yourself. It’s a power that can’t be mustered up from your own doing, but from a deep desire to know and trust Him—a strength that’s firmly rooted in God’s love for you.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you
with my right hand.
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
Once you grasp how wide and long and high and deep Christ’s love is for you, you will come to experience a love that goes beyond any human knowledge as He fills your heart and soul with Himself guiding your each step (see Ephesians 3:18-20).
Won’t you let Him fill you up today?
You don’t need to look beyond the day in front of you. He is in your tomorrow. He is waiting for you and knows the unfolding of the days ahead. Yes, it will be a choice to trust Him and believe He has your best interest at heart even if you can only dimly view the next step you’re taking.
Some days you will need to trust Him with your very next breath. It’s okay. Take it one breath at a time. One moment at a time. One day at a time. Breathe in His peace and let the stillness of His presence capture your heart and restore your strength. “For a tranquil heart is life to your body . . .” (Proverbs 14:30a).
He is forever with you. He is your God. He will uphold you and strengthen you. You can count on His promise of strength to sustain you.
Journeying with Him,
Jessie
