I had the privilege of speaking at a retreat last month for a dear friend’s church in Arizona. The theme was – Trust. Even When… Little did I know how God was going to move through our time together and increase our faith and trust. We know in our minds God is trustworthy but do we allow it to penetrate our hearts in order to walk it out through our days? Trust is a choice! A choice we choose every day. Some days it is harder than others and we become discouraged and downtrodden. But in the end we need to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding. In all our ways acknowledge Him, and He will make our paths straight. Prov 3:5-6
Will you trust HIM with your tomorrow? Will you trust Him even when _____?
To truly understand why God will do what He says, we must fully understand His character and the attributes that prove He is trustworthy.
For example, He is: (this is not an exhaustive list)
- He is Truthful – (John 17:17) Since truth is the very essence of His nature, it’s impossible for Him to lie. Therefore, we can believe in His promises because He always tells the truth. He is trustworthy even when others aren’t.
- He is Good – (Psalm 119:68) His character is good, pure and right. He desires for us to follow Him with our whole heart, mind, and soul. When we veer off course He lovingly disciplines us for our good which in turn leads us back on track.
- He is Love – (1 John 4:19) He loved us before we loved him. His promises are always based on our best interests.
- He is For Us (Ps. 56:9b). The cross is the ultimate proof of His love for you and me. Jesus died for our sins. If He loved us enough to show the ultimate act of love (laying down one’s life), we have no reason to doubt Him, His word or His plans. Fix your eyes on HIM.
So whenever you find yourself discouraged, doubtful or fearful, remind yourself of the character of God. As His children, we have an amazing heavenly Father who is for us—who then, can be against us? (Romans 8:31)
Let us not boast or trust in what we can do but what God can do.
He is mightier.
He is stronger.
He is holier.
He is greater.
He is lovelier.
He can do far more above and beyond all that you ask or think. To HIM be the glory…
There is so much to learn while we wait and trust Him with the next step.
It’s your choice to trust. Will you trust Him with the next step? Will you trust Him to teach you along the way?
A season of difficulty can bring growth.
A season of weeping can bring healing.
A season of loss can bring gratefulness.
A season of silence can bring depth.
A season of joy can bring blessings.
A season of love can bring respect.
So may you trust God in the now and trust God with your then as you step out in faith.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
Psalm 20:7
Journeying with HIM,
Jessie
