I love when God shows you something new to a familiar scripture.
I picked up an “oldie but goodie” leadership devotional by John Maxwell as I was preparing for SHE Leads last week and while skimming through, Mark 2:1-12 struck me. After rereading it, it happened……His words aligned with what was in my heart and a previous read collided. Right there on the Holy pages, God spoke truth into my life and rearranged my thinking
God is still in the business of working miracles. Are you watching for them?
Yes, we can:
- Dream Big (Ephesians 3:20)
- Think High (Colossian 3:1-4)
- Live Expectantly (Eph 4:13)
- Walk Worthy (Eph 4:1)
You are the God who works miracles; You have made known your strength among the peoples. Psalm 77:14
You may be familiar with Mark 2. It is the story of the paralytic being lowered down through the roof top to see Jesus. As I read this story there was so much to uncover and apply to our own lives.
What kind of people would knock a hole in the roof? Good question?
- The four friends certainly cared about the wellbeing of their friend and were more concerned for him than finding a front row seat in a packed-full house.
- “It took the four friends to bring their friend to Jesus. It required teamwork. Success would only be achieved if each man continued to hold up his part of the bed. Failure was inevitable if any one of the them decided to do his own thing” ~ John Maxwell
- Knowing that only Jesus could take care of their friends problem gave them boldness and determination.
- They had their priorities straight. Jesus + Relationships = Success
These four men had a job to do that was greater than the fear of being different. It took each one of them to provide power beyond themselves. (Col 1:29)
Do you find yourself in a similar situation?
Is God asking you to do something BIGGER than you?
Is God asking you to come along others for a vision to be birthed?
Is God asking you to walk a path you don’t think you can walk?
Is God calling you out of something to open a grander door than you ever expected?
Recently when I felt God moving in a particular direction, I told a friend, “I am just going to hold on for dear life”.
While holding on, I don’t want to miss God in the midst of it all. I want to keep my eyes focused on Him and walk with others through the experience. I want it to be His strength that captures the eyes of onlookers.
And in the end, as it says in Mark 2:12:
And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this.”
May it start with us walking worthy of our calling, continually looking up to Him for our strength while expecting great things from Him that are far more than we could ever think or imagine.
Thank God for those who are willing to knock holes in roofs. They are different because they are determined to follow God at any expense. They bring people to Jesus.
Miracles still happen today that God may receive the glory!
Journeying with Him,
Jessie
