At this time of year, we seem to be drawn to the story of old from Luke 1. With fresh eyes, take a moment to read the pages of the birth of Jesus. There are many characters that comprise this historical phenomenon: Elizabeth, Zacharias, John the Baptist, Gabriel, Mary, Joseph and the Holy Spirit. Each one of these people have an important story of their own, but they all point to the one true story that we celebrate this Christmas Season, Jesus!
As you glance into chapter 2 of Luke, you will see that God preordained the place of Jesus birth as He drew Joseph and Mary from Nazareth to Bethlehem.
As I reread this story today, what grabbed my attention was Jesus’ birth place, Bethlehem. Bethlehem means “the house of bread.” How appropriate that the One who claimed to be the “living bread that came down from heaven” (John 6:51) was born in the “house of bread.” In John 6:34, the people’s response was that they ALWAYS wanted this bread.
You can have this “daily bread” every time you open the pages of the story that never gets old, God’s Word. His word will daily renew your walk, revive your desires and refresh your spirit.
As you close out 2012 and look to the New Year, feed on the true bread of life and be filled with the greatest gift of all, God’s permanent presence living in you.
Journeying with Him,
Jessie
